Rude Awakening

There is nothing you can do to make you feel better
When you get to feeling bad all day;
When you're out of place, and a rule forgetter,
And you've got to go a separate way.
There's nothing here that really satisfies you -
That makes it worth the price you pay,
And there's nothing in the world that will take that feeling away.

But you pray for a rude awakening -
Something that will open your eyes;
A final decision in the making
With not one inch of compromise.
You know the straight and narrow isn't easily held
When it just isn't going your way,
And there is nothing in the world that will make it stay
   out of your way.

'Cept your mind, that fine grey matter
That never lets an idea go
When you find you're your own Mad Hatter
And there's no one left around to show
The way that it is, or the way that it could be -
The prelude of a brand new day
And there's nothing in the world that will take that vision away.
